In 1986, a presumed-dead James Stenbeck returned on As The World Turns and purred to his stunned ex-wife, “Hello, Barbara.” After tormenting Barbara from 1980- 83, James was presumed dead after tumbling out of a cargo plane. Three years later, after a stint on Loving as Dane Hammond, portrayer Anthony Herrera inked a deal to return. Cast and crew were sworn to secrecy; so was Digest, which was invited to the set to cover his first day back, but only discovered the raison d’être for the visit once it was in progress. In scripts and other printed materials, James was referred to by a code name (Lester Keyes, an alias Stenbeck had previously used). “Almost nobody knew until I walked into the studio,” Herrera recalled to Digest in 2005.

In 2005, David Vickers (Tuc Watkins) and Dorian Cramer (Robin Strasser) were set to remarry on One Life to Live. The bride got ready in her dressing room with her niece Kelly and daughter Adriana by her side, and was delighted when her other niece, Blair, arrived in time for the ceremony. Dorian finagled a private moment alone with Blair's escort, Spencer, and warned him to stay away from Blair (among other things). As Dorian reconvened with her family for a pre-wedding toast, Spencer sought out the groom. He then blackmailed David (his half brother) into canceling the wedding, telling him that if he didn't do as Spencer asked, David was as good as dead. So, when the officiant asked if David took Dorian to be his wife, David reluctantly said no, telling Dorian he was sorry. She was gobsmacked.

In 2013 on Days of Our Lives, the would-be wedding of Kristen DiMera (Eileeen Davidson) to Brady Black at St. Luke's church blew up in a big way. Kristen had been harboring a terrible secret: she had drugged and raped Eric Brady (Greg Vaughan). Victor had slipped Marlena a flash drive, telling her it contained video of Kristen cheating on Brady. Marlena was desperate to stop the nuptials from occurring, and swapped out the DVDs, replacing the one containing a sweet video Brady had planned to screen at the ceremony as a surprise for his bride. The assembled guests watched in horror as images of Kristen and Eric's tryst played for all to see. Kristen's bouquet dropped to the ground.

In 2014, Christopher Sean made his Days of Our Lives debut as Paul Narita, a closeted pro baseball player who would ultimately be revealed to be the son of John Black. Sean recalled to Digest in 2015 that when he discussed the role with his agent, "He pretty much told me, ‘Look, this role is literally in the forefront of the gay rights movement right now. For you to be able to your tell the story of a professional athlete, and to personify that story for them in a public way, is really an opportunity to progress any yourself and show people this is life.' I was like, 'Heck yeah, man! That sounds awesome.' "
