In 1981, Thaao Penghlis made his DAYS debut as Tony DiMera — the first DiMera to be introduced. Penghlis recalled to Digest in 2015 of landing the job, "It was while I was waiting to go back to General Hospital as Victor Cassadine during the time of the Ice Princess in 1981. I had just finished the movie Altered States and then a strike came. It was the longest strike in SAG history. The only thing available was soaps, and that’s how I got into daytime. They called me in to test with Gloria Loring [ex-Liz Chandler] and there were five of us. I remember Gloria came to me with a big spark. I remember that light on her face.” The actor’s first stint lasted until 1985, with him taking on a second role, Andre DiMera, in 1983.

In 1989, Guiding Light’s Reva Shayne (Kim Zimmer, r.) realized that Dylan Cody (Morgan Englund) was her biological son with Billy Lewis, who she had given up for adoption. Dylan had come to Springfield from Tulsa to track down his biological parents, and there, he discovered his ex-lover, Harley Cooper, was now married to Alan-Michael Spaulding. Dylan was stunned when he learned that Harley had given birth to his daughter and given the little girl up for adoption. Dylan was wrongly accused of kidnapping the child and tried to flee town, but Billy accidentally struck him with his car. Billy and Reva rushed to his aid and that's when Reva saw the telltale birthmark on Dylan's knee which identified him as her son.

In 2008 on One Life To Live, Starr Manning (Kristen Alderson) gave birth to her daughter with Cole Thornart, Hope, with both her mother, Blair Cramer (Kassie DePaiva, l.) and Marcie McBain (Kathy Brier) by her side. Marcie was the intended adoptive mother of the baby, which 16-year-old Starr had made the difficult to decision to give up for adoption. On the same day, "Tess" (Jessica Buchanan's alter) gave birth to her daughter with Nash Brennan, also a girl, but sadly, the baby was stillborn. Another alter, "Bess" emerged, and switched the babies, so Starr was led to believe that her child had died. (Eventually Starr was reunited with Hope, who then died in a tragic car accident on General Hospital in 2012.)

In 2009, Sarah Brown exited General Hospital as Claudia Zacchara, a role she had assumed the previous year after a three-time Daytime Emmy-winning run as the original Carly Roberts. Reflecting on her return to the show in 2023, Brown said, " ‘So different from Carly’ was the only way that I could possibly think about coming back to a show that Carly was still on. I didn’t know how else it would work! I was too similar-looking to Laura [Wright, Carly] to try to be anything but the complete opposite. It appealed to me because I was a huge fan of James Gandolfini and really loved the show The Sopranos and the story was kind of going into that kind of territory. [The writers] wanted Claudia to be a rival for Sonny Corinthos, not a love interest. So that was a fascinating challenge.”

In 2016, Young and Restless's Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis Summers (Gina Tognoni) woke up together in his office after succumbing to passion. "Yeah, so that noise we heard outside was the sound of people coming in to work this morning," Nick warned. Phyllis teased, "What, you don't think I can blend in with the rest of the crowd?" "Well, unless it's Come Tto Work Naked Day," he replied. "I'm gonna have to try that at Jabot!" she joked. Later, Jack found Phyllis's ID badge under the blanket on Nick's sofa and put two and two together. Jack voiced his surprise and Nick sensed his disapproval. He told Jack, "As far as I'm concerned, we are two single adults."
