Step into an evening of inspiration and reflection with The Locher Room on Thursday, November 7, at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT, as host Alan Locher welcomes a veteran of the soaps — actress and author Barbara Rodell.
Memory Lane
Rodell, who was born in Brooklyn, NY, received her early training at The Henry Street Settlement and the Dramatic Workshop and she studied liberal arts at Brooklyn College. She is known for her many soap roles and left an indelible mark on daytime television. Her soap debut was in 1965, playing Linda Skerba Driscoll on A Flame in the Wind (succeeding her in the role was future General Hospital star Jane Elliot, Tracy). She was the second actress to take on the role of Lee Randolph, replacing Gaye Huston, on Another World from 1967-1969, when the character was killed off in a car accident. She was the third actress to portray Jill Clayborn on The Secret Storm from 1969-1970, until the character was killed in a plane crash. Rodell was the second actress to play Leslie Jackson Bauer Norris, Rick Bauer’s mom, on Guiding Light from 1971-1973. Her next role would be her longest — she played Joyce Colman on As the World Turns from 1973-1981 — and in 1985, she played Judge Wallace on Loving.
In addition to her work on daytime, she appeared on prime-time shows like Mannix and E/R and in the film The Devil’s Commandment.
The actress will take a walk down soap memory lane with Locher, and will also share the spiritual journey behind her new memoir, Heaven Is Now: A Spiritual Journey of Self Realization through Grace. Inspired by angelic guidance, her book reveals a profound exploration of faith, love and resilience. With heartfelt reflections, Rodell offers readers a window into her soul, inviting us all to discover understanding, forgiveness and a deeper connection to God.
