In 1992, Guiding Light aired a special episode centering around Ross Marler (Jerry verDorn), then a Senatorial candidate, who had a life-changing nightmare on the eve of the election. At the time, Ross had fallen hard for Blake Marler (Liz Keifer), the daughter of Ross's former fiancée, Holly Lindsey, and his longtime foe, Roger Thorpe. In his surreal dream, Ross discovered that he only needed one vote to win, but none of the various women in his life (including former lovers Nadine and Vanessa) would give it to him!

In 2005, Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Nick Marone (Jack Wagner) were on the verge of succumbing to their passion for one another and making love, but Brooke put on the brakes, saying, "I can't do this to my daughter." The daughter in question, Bridget, just so happened to be married to Nick and was expecting a child with him. Brooke also cited her own union to Eric as a reason not to go through with their lovemaking. Nick ultimately conceded that he was not willing to walk away from Bridget and their child forever. "I can't any more than you can," he acknowledged. "I'll be there for them, and I'll love them, and I'll give them everything I've got."

In 2008, Emma Scorpio-Drake was born on General Hospital. Her mother, Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough) had gone into labor at her wedding to Emma's dad, Patrick Drake (Jason Thompson) so the nuptials were called to a halt. At the hospital to give birth, Robin was hooked up to a fetal monitor and her doctor immediately noticed an issue and Robin was prepped for an emergency C-section. During the procedure, the surgeon had to cut through the umbilical cord, which exposed the baby to HIV (as Robin was HIV-positive). Robin and Patrick enjoyed a few moments of newborn bliss with their little girl, which turned to concern when Patrick noticed a nick on the baby's ear, confirming the possibility of her HIV exposure. Fortunately, after testing, little Emma was proclaimed to be in perfect health.

In 2014, GH’s Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) exposed Carly Corinthos's (Laura Wright) affair with Sonny — and that Sonny had murdered A.J. Quartermaine — after dumping her at the altar at their wedding. When officiant Lucy asked if Franco could take Carly to be his lawfully wedded wife, he coolly responded, "Hell no. Why would I marry a lying, cheating whore?" Carly and Michael were left reeling as Franco unveiled video footage that confirmed not only that Carly had been intimate with Sonny, but that Michael's mom had helped his adoptive father cover up the murder of his biological dad.
